Physics break moving dev from Windows to MacOS

i've tried with a couple different projects to migrate them from Windows (10 or 11, tried both) to MacOS. both times, when trying to Run Project, my character controller completely stops working. actually in the past, all physics have stopped.
i'm sure it's just a simple setting i need to toggle or something, but i haven't found support for this specific issue online.

here's a quick gif showing my character controller suspended mid-air lol previously gravity applied to it and it would move around (with input)

i should also mention that i've tried this on both Godot 3.4 and now Godot 4.0.1 and had the exact same result.

anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

also i'm very new to these forums, so if there's more information i should provide let me know 😅

if it helps, the method i use to migrate from Windows -> MacOS was

  1. cloning my git project
  2. importing it into Godot
  3. running the default scene

no other changes were made, and i get no errors in the debugger/editor output
