How to detect device model by macro? i had using something like this but the result on the simulator alway IS_IPHONE_5

#define IS_IPAD (UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPad)
#define IS_IPHONE (UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPhone)
#define IS_IPHONE_5 (IS_IPHONE && [[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds].size.height == 568.0)
#define IS_IPHONE_6 (IS_IPHONE && [[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds].size.height == 667.0)
#define IS_IPHONE_6PLUS (IS_IPHONE && [[UIScreen mainScreen] nativeScale] == 3.0f)
#define IS_IPHONE_6_PLUS (IS_IPHONE && [[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds].size.height == 736.0)
#define IS_RETINA ([[UIScreen mainScreen] scale] == 2.0)

the problem only present on old projects, every thing is ok with new projects(which be created by Xcode 6).Pahang
fixed by: create launch screen and delete all default launching imagesPahang
You should use #define IS_IPHONE_6PLUS (IS_IPHONE && [[UIScreen mainScreen] scale] == 3.0f) on actual iPhone6 device. Not nativeScale.Bedazzle
[[UIScreen mainScreen] nativeScale] == 3.0f (or even scale) to detect an iPhone 6 Plus is wrong. These will report the wrong thing if you are on a scaled iOS app running on a 6+. nativeScale will never be 3.0 -- on a 6 Plus it is 2.60869 (since the physical screen is not a true 3x) To detect the running environment it is fine to use scale, but to detect the device itself, you will have to use other methods like: #11198009Vella
@Milanpatel add launch screen xib to your projectPahang

IS_IPHONE_6 and IS_IPHONE_6P do not appear work in the simulator. The reported max length is 568. Am I missing something?Daiquiri
Is it in zoomed mode? Do you have a launchscreen for iPhone 6?Panta
This looks like an overall incorrect direction to me. This will definitely break in the not too far future.Temporary
@Jonny: Alternatives?Omaromara
I guess in most cases designing for a model is not a good choice for maintainability and can be avoided by checking for required features rather than exact models.Temporary
@Jonny: In general you are right, but I know an application, which would take advantage of this if you would know the model or at least the resolution. It is the week view in the calendar application which adapts the width of a day depending on the device type. WIth this an exact amount of days can be shown at the same time. Without this solution you see only parts of the other days.Omaromara
if you are planning to distribute your app to millions of users, this is not recommended. Do check these results if user enabled "Zoom" (instead of normal "standard") in display settings of the device. This code will break in this case. I personally recommend to use mcm's answer.Gonidium
yes, you have to check zoom too, otherwise, the height for iPhone plus is 667, see my answer belowWilliswillison

    static let SCREEN_MIN_LENGTH = min(ScreenSize.SCREEN_WIDTH, ScreenSize.SCREEN_HEIGHT)

No need for UIUserInterfaceIdiom enum, just import UIKitRectangle

Yes - iPhone 6 (+) comes with iOS 8 and it is not possible to downgradeProcedure
This doesnt work since .size.height == 568.0f returns 320 when iphone 5 is in landscapeMotherinlaw
I test it on landscape too and its giving correct answer, tell me in detail please.Frondescence
how would you do these checks in Swift?Bunting
According to documentation, screen bounds depend on orientation starting with iOS 8 (quote): This rectangle is specified in the current coordinate space, which takes into account any interface rotations in effect for the device. Therefore, the value of this property may change when the device rotates between portrait and landscape orientations.Littell

native height for iPhone 6 Plus is 2208 NOT 1920 - I corrected your answer.Radiotransparent
+1. nativeBounds is better to use than bounds. An iPhone 6 with Display Zoom on will report 568 for bounds.height, but 1334 for nativeBounds.height, even though Display Zoom does not have any effect inside apps. (support.apple.com/en-us/HT203073)Goodsized
@Radiotransparent I get 1920.0 returned to me from Xcode for the iPhone 6/7 plus.Necessitous
then we should use both cases here :- case 1920: fallthrough case 2208: return .iPhone6PlusSlone

I can confirm the bug goes away when you set a Launch Screen.

I kept my launch images, and added MainStoryboard to Launch Screen and the simulator recognized the devices correctly.

Agree this, for older projects without launchscreen its buggy. Launch Screen solved it.Dystrophy

It's better not to bind your code with device types. This will lead to inflexible convoluted one. Apple wants you to think about sizes not devices. In case you need to have special sizes for devices larger than iPhone 5 such as image or font sizes, I would recommend to create a normalize class with a multiplier that grows your base size by a certain percent based on the relation between the iPhone 5 screen width and the current device size.

let BaseWidth : CGFloat = 320

class Normalizer: NSObject {
    //scale value proportional to the screen width
    class func normalize(value:CGFloat,multiplier : CGFloat = 1,maxDelta:CGFloat = 1024) -> CGFloat{
        let screenWidth = UIScreen.mainScreen().bounds.size.width
        let percent = (screenWidth - BaseWidth)/screenWidth
        let normalizedValue = value * (1 + percent) * multiplier
        return min(normalizedValue, value + maxDelta)//capped by a max value if needed
    }
}

So in your code you will do something like that:

value = Normalizer.normalize(30)

Why not using a struct with a static normalize ?Setula
It should work too but I think struct is mostly for handling dataAllegorist

I encountered the problem while migrating from an iOS 7 project to a iOS 8 project, since I didn't add a launch screen scene to my project.

In this case the screen size for iPhone 6 and 6+ are as iPhone 5.

See from apple documentation; You use a launch XIB or storyboard file to indicate that your app runs on iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone 6.
