In case you want to do it using Jetty 9, note that since jetty-9.0 it is no longer possible to configure a https connector directly in the pom.xml: you need to use jetty xml config files to do it.[1].
Here is an example:
pom.xml
<properties>
<jetty-version>9.1.2.v20140210</jetty-version>
</properties>
...
<dependency>
<groupId>org.eclipse.jetty</groupId>
<artifactId>jetty-server</artifactId>
<version>${jetty-version}</version>
</dependency>
...
<plugin>
<groupId>org.codehaus.mojo</groupId>
<artifactId>keytool-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<version>1.3</version>
<executions>
<execution>
<phase>generate-resources</phase>
<id>clean</id>
<goals>
<goal>clean</goal>
</goals>
</execution>
<execution>
<phase>generate-resources</phase>
<id>genkey</id>
<goals>
<goal>generateKeyPair</goal>
</goals>
</execution>
</executions>
