So our first game on the Godot 4 engine has been released. The game is completely free. This is an arena shooter with multiplayer capability and destructible levels. I hope you will enjoy. I want to express my deep gratitude to the creators of the Godot engine. You are best.

oh hey, I remember you from the last time you made a thread promoting this game. ...why does itch take me to a google drive link? doesn't itch have it's own hosting for stuff like this?

edit: after some digging I'm guessing the game was too big for itch.io's file size and you hosted it on google drive instead. I just got confused cause I've never seen that before.

Yeah, it's probably a great demonstration of the engine's current capabilities. I'd like to see more full destructibility, but that's probably possible in the future.

Question — how to distribute large files? Maybe torrent?

Novah Don't use Torrents, Bittorrent clients aren't compatible with all OS's, such as Linux as far as I know.

They're also prone to hosting virused nasty files, like their predecessors such as Kazaa and Limewire etc.

Torrent is just a file transfer protocol and nothing more. It is suggested that Linux be downloaded via torrent

Many free/freeware programs and operating systems, such as the various Linux distributions offer a torrent download option for users seeking the aforementioned benefits.

And it doesn't have torrent support?

then use a different client? there are many, and quite a few work on different OS's.

They're also prone to hosting virused nasty files, like their predecessors such as Kazaa and Limewire etc.

that's not really any different from exe files though.
torrent's just another way of transferring data, and can be abused as much as any other. only real difference is the others haven't had decades of media demonization making people scared of them.

...which is the bigger problem. hosting your game on torrent is fine but it'll scare people off because of what I just mentioned.

Huge congrats on the release! I added the new "Released" tag to the project.

Forum pro-tip: First image in first post will be used as a thumbnail if you want more awareness/visibility 🤩

Taskwork First image in first post will be used as a thumbnail

If the picture is changed, will the preview change? It didn't before. Isn't that a paid option? It's been disabled.

Novah The thumb will change if you change the image. It's sourcing the thumb from the first image in the post. Not sure what you mean by "paid" option... It's up and running for everyone if you look in the Projects tag. 🙂

It seems clear… there used to be a preview of the first picture in a topic (if there was one) in the general feed, instead of the TS avatar and this was disabled before the forum was closed.

I want to thank everyone who saw this thread. We tried to make this game, among other things, to demonstrate the capabilities of the engine. We wanted to show that Godot can be used not only for simple games, but also for serious large-scale projects. We can say that our game is a demonstration of the capabilities of the engine.

finally got around to actually trying the release build.

the shooting still has that floaty, non-impactful, 2000's freeware feel to it but for some reason the movement is a lot smoother than I remember. the game hitches up when I respawn, but after about five minutes of in-game time it goes away.

you also have a few more interesting guns than last time and way, waaaay more maps and modes. I can see most of the dev time went into making more content. I also see you got that promised environment destruction in.

Fleeman I love the ambition! I think the destruction you have is a great, unique feature shown in the video! Being a multiplayer game, was the destruction a challenging aspect of the development?

I did try it briefly and thought it was cool. I did notice some stuttering, which I suspect is due to shader compilations. Would be great to see this game continue getting updates and more gameplay videos.

Taskwork The only difficulty was getting the destructibility to work fast enough.

Fleeman I can imagine. It would be cool if the destruction on the walls were a little more irregular. Right now, they look like perfect spheres. And perhaps the particle debris could also be a bit more chaotic to add to the destruction effect. It's a great accomplishment either way.
