I declare spring-framework 4.2.1.BUILD-SNAPSHOT and hibernate 5.0.0.BETA2 in my project, but I get an AbstractMethodError.

Here is the stack trace:

I searched and found a package named org.springframework.orm.hibernate5, I guess spring-framework must support hibernate5 now. Detail https://github.com/spring-projects/spring-framework/tree/v4.3.9.RELEASE/spring-orm-hibernate5/src/main/java/org/springframework/orm/hibernate5

I change the version of hibernate to other 5.0 version, but the problem stills there, should it be a bug of my code or spring or hibernate? My source works OK when hibernate's version is 4.3.10.Final. Maybe the stack trace doesn't show all the problems, you can view my project source via (https://github.com/zjnu-acm/judge2/commit/158e3de21e4bfc83b1fa863a649c982a9039f30b) Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Do you try adding explicit dependency to Hibernate-core 5.0.0.CR3 version too? It is one of the optionals to use within spring 4.2.x and newer than 5.0.0.beta2Gnathic
You don't need to use the snapshot, Spring Framework 4.2.0.RELEASE is available since last Friday. Make sure you don't have a mixed version of libraries.Doug
I find it, and I had already update my project to 4.2.1.BUILD-SNAPSHOTClathrate
I just add a property <hibernate.version>5.0.0.CR2</hibernate.version> to pom.xml, without any other changes. And jadira usertype doesn't support hibernate 5.0.0.CR3 yet.Clathrate
I remove usertype.extend and the problem is still there.Clathrate
@martian, can I suggest you accept an answer, given this is now fully understoodIndigo

This is an issue with Jadira Usertype 4.0.0.GA and earlier, in combination with Hibernate 5. It is fixed in Usertype 5.0.0.GA (see http://jadira.sourceforge.net/changes-report.html#a5.0.0.GA).

In my case, I was using Usertype 3.0.0.CR3 for JodaTime support. I wasn't attempting to use Java 8 (JSR-310) time classes or org.jadira.usertype:usertype.extended.

Debugging shows that the exception occurs while trying to add an integrator of type "org.jadira.usertype.dateandtime.joda.integrator.UserTypeJodaTimeHibernateIntegrator" to the integratorObservers of hibernate's SessionFactoryImpl.

If using JSR-310, then as martian suggests use the hibernate-java8 module. If using JodaTime and not JSR-310 times, then this won't help. A relatively simple workaround is to create a JPA 2.1 AttributeConverter for each JodaTime type that you use.

AttributeConverters can also be used for JSR-310 types. They have the advantage of being portable and that you don't have to annotate each entity field, if you set autoApply=true.

Example classes:

The previous answer was posted by myself. I answered my question. I don't think it's a good idea to configurate each DateTime type. I do configurated in the class package-info. I don't think it's good enough. The best solution is that we should not configurate any thing but put the jar in the classpath. Here is the package-info.java I have ever configurated. github.com/zhanhb/judge/blob/…Clathrate
Looking at your commit, I think you mean that you don't want to annotate each column/field with @Type. Your solution to that is fine. But this means that you are using Jadira Usertype, which would still break hibernate 5. I've updated my answer to explain how the same thing can be achieved with AttributeConverters.Indigo
The issue with the integrator is fixed in release 5.0.0.GA of Jadira. It related to a change in the Hibernate API.Demott
@ChrisPheby thanks for the fix! I've updated my answerIndigo

It seems usertype is to blame, usertype 4.0.0.GA does not support hibernate5, for hibernate5 has its own implements of java 8 classes. remove org.jadira.usertype:usertype.extend and add org.hibernate:hibernate-java8, the problem will be gone.

Hi, I am also facing same issue. can you please check this q : #33994224Stonehenge

Hmm. I have same error Caused by: org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'entityManagerFactory' defined in class path resource [org/springframework/boot/autoconfigure/orm/jpa/HibernateJpaAutoConfiguration.class]: Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is java.lang.AbstractMethodError ; BUT updating JADIRA doesnt help. I use spring-4.3.3 Hibernate 5.2.5.Final Any ideas more ?Mortonmortuary

I got the same issue resolved by using below usertype

    <dependency>
        <groupId>org.jadira.usertype</groupId>
        <artifactId>usertype.core</artifactId>
        <version>5.0.0.GA</version>
    </dependency>
