ios Upload Image and Text using HTTP POST

Question

Thanks for reading.

I am new to iOS and I am trying to upload an Image and a text using multi-part form encoding in iOS.

The curl equivalent is something like this: curl -F "param1=value1" -F "[email protected]" "http://some.ip.address:5000/upload"

The curl command above returns the expected correct response in JSON.

Problem: I keep getting a HTTP 400 request which means I am doing something wrong while composing the HTTP POST Body.

What I Did: For some reference, I tried Flickr API iOS app "POST size too large!" and Objective C: How to upload image and text using HTTP POST?. But, I keep getting a HTTP 400.

I tried the ASIHttpRequest but had a different problem there (the callback never got called). But, I didn't investigate further on that since I've heard the developer has stopped supporting the library: http://allseeing-i.com/[request_release];

Could someone please help me out?

Thanks for the link. Actually, that still gives me a 400 error. I printed out the http post body - and instead of the image all I see is two junk characters. So, when you append the imageData, it is of type NSData - should it be a base64 encoded string instead? BTW, my imageToPost is of type UIImage. – Kymberlykymograph

That code as written works in my app to post images to our web server (Linux/PHP). The image is a UIImage. – Wristwatch

For folks referring this code: "BoundaryConstant" is basically the variable "boundary" which is essentially a random (NSString *), "FileParamConstant" is basically your "filename.jpg". – Kymberlykymograph

this doesnt allow duplicate keys, and also my photos are not being sent to my webservice even though they are being transfered (it takes 15 sec do finish because of the photos) but my webservice doesnt recognize them – Gianna

There are many ways to send the request. Look at the docs for NSURLConnection. – Wristwatch

Use AFNetworking; Put other parameters in the parameter dictionary and append the image data in form data.

Use the notificationName for notifying when request has finished.

Note: Always use sendAsynchronousRequest method instead of sendSynchronousRequest for uploading/downloading data to avoid blocking main thread. Here I used sendSynchronousRequest for testing purpose only.
