Is there a way to change the color of the grids in eclipse?

I am using the built-in 'Dark' theme, and the grid lines are too bright for me, they mess with my vision, I have some visual snow.

I think that is based on the "Window Color and Appearance" (that's the given name if you are under windows) of your desktop personalization just like the top bar maximize/minimize/close.

So you can always go there and change it in "3D objects", but be aware that this change will affect your whole desktop/windows visuals.

Altho, that beeing said, I know that there are ways tweak it around. This could give you a hand: http://marketplace.eclipse.org/content/eclipse-4-chrome-theme#.UYrzEkAW1J0

Also a tool called css spy will help you find what you want to edit faster: http://marketplace.eclipse.org/content/eclipse-4-tools-css-spy#.UYrzSkAW1J0

I installed both In Jeeeyul's I can't find where I could change this. CSS Spy doesn't seem to work when I press shift+alt+f5, it just defocuses the window. I have Eclipse 4.4.0.Scurrilous
I managed to change the color through Color and Appearance, but I don't want my system to look like that. Since eclipse uses a windows api for this I guess it should be near impossible to change it, the plugin would have to have an own system for ui.Scurrilous
Doesn't work on Windows 11 from regular settings. Other options also don't solve the issue..Prowel
@Prowel You put a bounty on a question and comment an answer that are both more than nine years old. A lot of has changed since. In the current version this issue is not reproducible on Windows 11 at all (in the Problems view the rows are not separated by horizontal lines in the built-in dark theme). Maybe you using an outdated version.Giess
@Giess my bad. But the variables view, for example, has exactly the same lines with the Darkest Dark ThemeProwel
@Prowel The dark theme plugin patches Eclipse via loadtime weaving which can cause issues and slow down Eclipse (the vendor of this plugin tries to cheat the open source license of Eclipse by doing so). If you don't like the Eclipse built-in dark theme, there are other dark themes that are more ergonomic and don't do this.Giess
@Giess can you name a dark theme that doesn't have this white border issue on windows? Build in eclipse dark theme also has this problemProwel
@Prowel The lines that are the subject of the question are no longer displayed in the current version. In the Variable view, in the view menu (the three dots) there is the option Layout > Show Columns to show/hide those "white lines".Giess
@Giess that's not exactly what I was looking for but it's better than it was and also works in other places with the column view, so thanks. Feel free to post it as an answerProwel

Since the question was asked, the built-in dark theme has been improved a lot.

  • In the Problems view, horizontal lines are no longer displayed.
  • In the Variables view, the lines can be hidden in the view menu (the three dots) via the option Layout > Show Columns to show/hide.

Enhancement requests for the built-in dark theme can be reported for the platform here and for the Java development tools (JDT) here, best with a pull request that fixes it (see dark theme related commits made in the past in the platform and in JDT).
