UPDATE:

Tried recommended command from Neckbeard:

ffmpeg -analyzeduration 10M -probesize 10M -i Webpfile.webp -c:v libx264 output.mp4

Here's the output (file paths generalized):

User-macbookpro:~ User$ ffmpeg -analyzeduration 10M -probesize 10M -i Webpfile.webp -c:v libx264 output.mp4

Currently I'm trying to convert a webp back to an mp4, but getting the error:

Nothing was written into output file 0 (output.mp4), because at least one of its streams received no packets.

Here is the current command I've been using without success:

ffmpeg -i webpfile.webp -c:v libx264 output.mp4

I notice that there are also other errors during processing, calling out

Skipping unsupported chunk: ANIM

Skipping unsupported chunk: ANMF

And

Could not find codec parameters for stream 0 (Video: webp, none): unspecified size
Consider increasing the value for the 'analyzeduration' and 'probesize' options

What am I doing wrong here? I thought it would be as simple as I had converted a movie to webp, but going the other way seems more nuanced.

Try any or all of the following: 1) ffmpeg -analyzeduration 10M -probesize 10M -loop 1 -t 5 -i webpfile.webp -c:v libx264 output.mp4. 2) Use a recent ffmpeg. 3) Show the complete log. 4) Provide a link to the input file.Delitescence

Can anything else open the input? What created the file? Try a newer ffmpeg from evermeet or zeranoe. Try the git versions instead of the 4.0 release version.Delitescence

According to this FFmpeg ticket, decoding animated webp files is not yet supported.

https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/4907

Currently, FFmpeg can encode animated WebPs, but cannot decode them, which is inconvenient for users.

Decoding animated WebPs right now generates "image data not found error" due to "unsupported chunk": https://github.com/FFmpeg/FFmpeg/blob/master/libavcodec/webp.c#L1504

Current ticket status: open enhancement
